These LEDs are great for any kind of fun lighting effect because they are individually addressable - this means all LEDs can be controlled one by one. The WPILIB library has all kinds of excellent examples for both Java and C++ for these strips, and Team Thrifty team 7407 was kind enough to beta these strips and provide Python code here.
